    A pair of turn of the century cane singlestick helmets; Singlestick began as a way of training sailors in the use of swords such as the cutlass or the saber before they progressed on to the bladed weapons. The singlestick itself is a slender, round wooden rod, traditionally of ash, with a basket woven cane hilt. The traditional protection offered to the head is a basket woven cane helmet with leather padding to the ear pieces.
