The case is lined in striking red Morocco leather with matching boxes for, amongst other things, a comprehensively fitted manicure set. The internal fittings are extensive including bottles and numerous containers in cut crystal with French silver-gilt tops stamped with LV's makers mark but also bearing British import marks for 1927 and stamped GS for George Stockwell, Stockwell & Co Ltd, an importer active as foreign and general shipping agent.
Marthe Chenal, the iconic French soprano, famous for her rousing rendition of “La Marseillaise” performed on the balcony of the Opéra on Armistice Day in 1918, was a dedicated Louis Vuitton customer. An announcement was even made in the magazine Comoedia that, “ Miss Marthe Chenal travels only with Vuitton trunks” and in 1925, Louis Vuitton officially christened this style of dressing case after her. Her own crocodile skin and tortoiseshell case is illustrated on page 281 of the Louis Vuitton book, “100 Legendary Trunks”.#This item is covered by CITIES regulations.
