    The importance of ships in the context of history is remarkable, from the earliest evidence of dugout canoes in 6,000 BC, to Christopher Columbus' first non-Arctic crossing of the Atlantic in 1492. The evolution of ship building has shaped history, and history has undoubtedly influenced ship building, the Industrial revolution for example, made possible the use of new materials and designs, while after WWII countries needed to manufacture and repair its own navy and vessels to support its primary industries.
