A superb 1:10 scale carved wood model of the 1949 British Grand Prix winning car; a Maserati 4CLT/48 that was driven by Baron Emmanuel De Graffenried. In original glazed display case that lifts off and with makers label for Rex Hays, a master craftsman who inspired a generation of model car builders in the 1950s and 60s.

Rex Hays of Sussex, England came from a family of artists and sculptors. He originally trained as a mechanical engineer, but worked as an author, historian, and broadcaster. However he is probably best remembered today as a professional model maker. Specializing in hand made models of Grand Prix race cars and working in multiple scales, he drew commissions from carmakers, Formula 1 constructors, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, and the royal family, including the Queen.
