A lovely example of the classic English chess set with weighted turned and carved Boxwood and Ebony pieces. Endorsed by the World chess champion Howard Staunton and made by John Jaques & Son in original labelled Mahogany box. Circa 1930.
Dimensions (box): 23.5 cm/9¼ inches x 18 cm/7 inches x 11.5 cm/4½ inches. Height of King: 11 cm/4¼ inches.
