Polished cast aluminium model of a Supermarine Swift on newly made polished aluminium stand. This model was originally made for the Air Ministry in the 1950’s when the Swift entered service with the RAF, originally as an interceptor aircraft.
Dimensions: 52 cm/20½ inches (length) x 40.75 cm/16 inches (wing span) x 32 cm/12⅝ inches (max. height on stand).
The Swift was a British single-seat jet interceptor and fighter aircraft that was operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF). It was developed by Supermarine during the 1940s and early 50s and was the first British jet aircraft with swept wings and tailplane. In 1953, a Swift F.4 broke the world absolute speed record, reaching a speed of 737.7 mph. Thus, the Swift, for a time had the distinction of being the world's fastest aircraft.
