A fine example of a classic English chess set with weighted turned and carved Boxwood and Ebony 'Staunton' pattern pieces, in a period Mahogany box with silk lining and key. Circa 1900.
A few of the ebony pieces display shrinkage cracks in the turned base sections that are typical of these weighted sets.
Dimensions: Height of King- 10 cm/4 inches. Box- 27.25 cm/10¾ inches x 19 cm/7½ inches x 10 cm/4 inches tall.
