Attractive leather attaché case with nickel plated fittings, circa 1925. This case has original embossed initials, I.B.G., on the top and has a new brown moire silk lining to the interior. Stamped with Italian makers name, Franzi, who often used English leather for making their luggage.
The Valigeria Franzi is the oldest Italian maker of luxury leather luggage, founded in Milan around 1840 by Rocco Franzi. By the early 20th century they were a supplier to royalty and nobility. Interestingly, Guccio Gucci worked for the company before he set up Gucci in 1921.
