'Grenade' Table Cigar Lighter

A wonderful silver table lighter that is designed to be filled with a wick and flammable liquid, lit and placed on the dining table. When needed it would be slid across the surface to where it was required. The grenade is therefore weighted at the bottom. This one also has a slightly flattened base so it does not wobble. Hallmarked Birmingham 1929.

The flaming grenade motif has long been used by various regiments of the British military including the Grenadier Guards, the Royal Engineers, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and the Royal Artillery.
