Spectacular limited edition Dunhill 'Dawn Moth Ghost' Aquarium table lighter, embellished with hand-carved and hand-painted designs inspired by vintage Dunhill aquarium lighters.
From a strictly limited edition of 22 pieces worldwide. Each lighter is individually crafted with unique detailing. The face of this lighter features an Emperor Moth amid cornflowers and wavering grasses. On the reverse, a caterpillar climbs a blade of grass above a toadstool.
Dimensions: 9.75 cm/3⅞ inches (width) x 5.75 cm/2¼ inches (depth) x 7 cm/2¾ inches (height).
The four acrylic sides encase a removable, state of the art Dunhill Turbo Lighter, first introduced over a century ago as the 'sports lighter', designed to work reliably in all weathers. More recently, re-engineered with a butane-powered, wind-resistant jet flame.
This pocket lighter is Palladium-plated with a moiré finish and lifts out so it can also be used independently of the decorative acrylic panels.
A reverse intaglio technique was originally employed to create the aquarium lighters, where the inside of the four lucite (acrylic) panels were first carved and then foiled & painted. This was a complicated process but one that successfully produced the three dimensional effect that these lighters became renowned for.
This project is a collaboration with Alfred Dunhill Ltd.
