The Swift was a British single-seat jet interceptor and fighter aircraft that was operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF). It was developed by Supermarine during the 1940s and early 50s and was the first British jet aircraft with swept wings and tailplane. In 1953, a Swift F.4 broke the world absolute speed record, reaching a speed of 737.7 mph. Thus, the Swift, for a time had the distinction of being the world's fastest production aircraft.
