Boxed Set of Tournament Size Chessmen

A large scale example of the classic English chess set with weighted turned and carved Boxwood and Ebony 'Staunton' pattern pieces; in original Mahogany box with felt lining; circa 1930. A few of the ebony pieces display shrinkage cracks in the turned base sections that are typical of these weighted sets.

Dimensions: Height of King- 11.5 cm/4½ inches. Box- 24 cm/9½ inches x 19.5 cm/7¾ inches x 12 cm/4¾ inches tall.

The chess pieces are shown on an early 20th century Jaques chessboard that has a mahogany frame and back with Rosewood and Satinwood squares.
The board measures 20 inches square and has 2 inch squares.
