A fine silver tiffin tin with silver plated faux padlock. Fully hallmarked Birmingham 1912 and with makers' mark for the retail silversmiths Pearce and Sons.

‘Tiffin’ was originally a term used to denote the British custom of stopping to take afternoon tea and this style of container was often used to carry suitable food whilst on the move. Silver has long been known to have strong antibacterial qualities and has therefore been used for hundreds of years as a material to make food containers.
