A substantial leather case with ‘fish-tail’ handle containing a series of 62 half inch scale individual, linen backed, maps covering England, Scotland and Wales by John Bartholomew & Son, Edinburgh; circa 1935. As with most map sets that we come across, it looks like although all the maps are from the same series, they were not necessarily all bought at exactly the same time. Presumably, one could purchase individual maps as required and eventually build up most of a set. The leather case to house them and any remaining maps from the set could then be purchased. This case has had the leather hinge of the lid sympathetically reinforced.
Case dimensions: 41.5 cm/16⅜ inches (width) x 15.25 cm/6 inches (depth) x 21 cm/8¼ inches (height).
