A superb 1940's German made 12 x 60 (12 power magnification and 60 mm objective lenses) double telescope binocular, with 60° inclined oculars and integral filters. Made to a design by Carl Zeiss of Jena that was used frequently on flak range finders, typically in groups of three - two for the aimers and one for the firing technician. The oculars are inclined at 60 degrees to the horizontal, originally to assist comfortable viewing of the sky. This model of binocular is regarded highly for design and optical performance. This example was made for the French Vichy regime during the second world war, thus any engraving to the controls is in French.
The binoculars have been stripped of their original paint, the cast aluminium polished to a mirror finish and then mounted on a custom made cradle fitted to a period height adjustable wooden tripod stand. The optics have been fully refurbished to the highest standards. These binoculars come with a newly made wooden floor stand to provide stability to the tripod and give protection to floor surfaces.
Dimensions: 43 cm/17 inches (length of binocular).
