Blue John Stone and Silver Plate Box

A rare silver plated box with Blue John inset in to the lid. Originally designed to store cigarettes, the box features cedar lining to the inside of the lid and the interior of the base.

Dimensions: 16.5cm/6½ inches (width) x 8.5cm/3⅜ inches (depth) x 5cm/2 inches (height).

Blue John is a rare form of fluorite with bands of purple and orange/yellowish colours. Now considered Britain's rarest mineral, since the majority of mines have been abandoned due to the stone no longer being present.
