Finely carved, laminated wooden models of gliders that were in use during the 1950's. They have perspex cockpits and are mounted on wooden bases. Two of the three have engraved plaques fixed to the base that make reference to Association of 2nd TAF Gliding Clubs, Flt. Lt. D.E. Osland, Scharfoldendorf 1952. These were trophies won at the The 2nd T.A.F. Gliding Competitions of 1952.
The RAF Second Tactical Air Force (2nd T.A.F.) was one of three tactical air forces within the Royal Air Force (RAF) during and after the Second World War. The membership of the 2nd T.A.F. Gliding Association was made up from Service personnel stationed throughout Western Germany. RAF Scharfoldendorf is about 40 miles to the south of Hanover. These models date from just before it became a stratigic cold war era listening station.
