A wonderful silver plated ice bucket designed in 1933 by Luc Lanel for the famed Parisian silversmith, Christofle. This model, with ridge design to the handles and body, was to a pattern called “Ondulations”, and was originally designed for the First Class Dining Room and Bar of the great French ocean liner, Le Normandie. Built as a floating castle, her lavish interiors have led many to consider her the greatest ocean liner ever built.
Dimensions: maximum width including handles 24 cm/9½ inches. 19 cm/7½ inches (diameter of top excluding handles) x 21 cm/8¼ inches (height).
Founded in Paris in the 1830’s the Christofle firm negotiated the rights to the electroplating patents of G and R Elkington of Birmingham, England. In 1930 the firm was taken over by the grand nephew of the founder. With the influence of his design conscience wealthy Italian wife, a renaissance began. They commissioned designs from some of the most gifted industrial designers and architects to produce stylish and avant garde ranges for Christofle.
