A stunning silver box with unusual herringbone block design and decorative rose gold binding. By English silversmiths Alfred Clark, hallmarked London 1901. One of the gold corners to the lid is engraved with the initials C.A., and another has the year 1920 engraved. Originally designed for cigarettes, the box features a cedar lining to the interior of the base.
Dimensions: 16 cm/6¼ inches (width) x 9 cm/3½ inches (depth) x 5 cm/2 inches (height).
Alfred Clark were amongst the best of England's goldsmiths & silversmiths in the late 19th and early 20th century and were 'By Warrant of Appointment' to his Majesty the King and to her Majesty Queen Alexandra as well as their royal highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales. They were also a manufacturer of exquisite fitted travelling bags.
