Steel pocket knife modelled as a bottle of Heidsieck Dry Monopole Champagne. Makers mark for Sheffield cutler John Watts. Circa 1925.
Dimensions: 6.5 cm/2½ inches (length) x 1.75 cm/¾ inches (width) x 0.5cm/⅛ inch (thick).
Heidsieck & Co Monopole is one of the oldest Champagne houses. The House was founded in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck, a young German from Westphalia, a cloth manufacturer, who establishes a trading company for wool and wine in Reims and names it “Heidsieck & CO.” He soon gives up selling wool and focuses exclusively on trading in wine from the Champagne region.
