Silver Tiffin Tin

A fabulous silver tiffin tin with hinged lid. Made using heavy gauge silver and with each separate component hallmarked. Stamped with makers' mark for Atkin Brothers (originally Harry Wright Atkin) and hallmarked Sheffield 1904.

Dimensions: 11 cm/4⅜ inches (diameter) x 14 cm/5½ inches (height)

‘Tiffin’ was originally a term used to denote the British custom of stopping to take afternoon tea and this style of container was often used to carry suitable food whilst on the move. Silver has long been known to have strong antibacterial qualities and has therefore been used for hundreds of years as a material to make food containers.
