A 1960's large scale aluminium model of a Vickers VC10 stripped of it's paint and polished to a mirror finish. Mounted on complementary modern aluminium stand.
The Vickers VC10 was a long-range British airliner designed and built by Vickers-Armstrong, and first flown in 1962. The airliner was designed to operate on long-distance routes from the shorter runways typical of the early 60's era. The performance of the VC10 was such that it achieved an unofficial record (5 hours and 1 minute) for the fastest London to New York crossing of the Atlantic for a sub-sonic airliner. A record it held from the 1960s until February 2020! The RAF was also interested in the VC10 from early on in its career, ordering 5 airframes initially in September 1961, followed by 6 more a year later and another 3 in July 1964. However, it wasn't until after the airlines had sold their aircraft that the main use of the VC10 in RAF service started. For 32 years after the last fare paying passengers disembarked from a VC10 the type continued to fly as a fuel tanker or transport aircraft with two RAF squadrons.
Dimensions: 98 cm/38½ inches (length) x 87.5 cm/34½ inches (wing span) x 61 cm/24 inches (maximum height on stand).
